A while ago, I discussed my new fondness for minimalist exploration (see here).
For most of my outings, I have now replaced my DSLR with a (very) high end Huawei P20pro telephone, with Leica lens.
Except, I didn’t.
Nowadays, I am once again carrying around a cumbersome bag…this time, with my Photography Pro drone in it.
Back to square one then ? Not really…
Because the opposite of sharp is dull, I am a bit obsessive-compulsive (bordering on a disorder I guess) when it comes to picture sharpness and crispness. As a matter of fact, unless there is an obvious artistic bias to make a blurry image (and I mean really, really obvious), nothing turns me off an image more, then an out of focus picture.

Using the correct lens is critical to Urbex photography success.
The size, f-number and even the weight of the lens you use will determine your image’s forces and weaknesses. It will induce the image’s distortion, saturation, depth of field, bokeh and, dare I say it ? Probably its soul, no less !!
Your clothing should protect you.
It should be insulation from the elements, the terrain, and sometimes….from other people.
It should be adequate for the weather, protect you from scraps and tears and be there for you, to blend in the crowd, before and after your urban explorations.
