Abandoned Hospitals

I previously admited my fondness for old cemeteries, in this blog. It should come to no surprise then, I am also fond of abandoned hospitals, asylums and sanatoriums. Not quiet for the same reason though.

To me, abandoned medical institution, introduce an entirely different level of curiosity and intrigue compared to regular abandoned house, as they symbolise brief moments of passage in people’s existence. Almost an obligatory transition in the course of normal life.

Tack Sharp Urbex

Because the opposite of sharp is dull, I am a bit obsessive-compulsive (bordering on a disorder I guess) when it comes to picture sharpness and crispness. As a matter of fact, unless there is an obvious artistic bias to make a blurry image (and I mean really, really obvious), nothing turns me off an image more, then an out of focus picture.

Legal Aid III : Security Guards

As bizarre as this may sound, in most places, there is some protection (albeit limited) for Urbexers if they get injured while in the act.

Hence, site owners can typically be liable to trespassers “if they willfully injured a person” or, and this is important, “knew or should have known about the presence of frequent trespassers and kept their site in unsafe condition“.

In order to limit their civil responsibility then, abandoned building proprietors will sometimes use the service of private security guards to keep Urbexers (a.k.a potential liability) at bay.
